when I travel, i want to be sure that my accommodation offers me a “home-away-from-home”. i knew Fashion Week would keep me really busy, and I that I would need to come home to a place of absolute tranquility. this trip was the same as every other one, so i wanted to make sure i had the chance to explore a new and luxurious hotel.
browsing through 100 different accommodation websites, i stumbled upon 131 on Herbert Baker. ladies, i don’t think you have ever seen such a view of Pretoria. So of course, I was sold, and booked on the spot! best decision this year ;) ready to Fashion Week, in style!
upon arrival, i was immediately welcomed with a high level of professionalism, accompanied by a welcoming smile and ‘how can we help you’ attitude. for all the staff at 131 on Herbert Baker Boutique Hotel, it was quite clear from the very beginning, that no request would be left unanswered. there was not one single member of staff at the hotel who was not willing to go that ‘extra mile’.
131 on Herbert Baker, resembles a royal residence as you enter the lobby, with beautiful glass chandeliers opening up in to high ceilings that leads to a maze of pillars in the courtyard. the first thing I noticed was in fact all the greenery, from living plants at the reception check-in to the impressive outdoor terrace by the swimming pool. this pool view was also my view for the next week. lucky fish, right?
i checked in, in the late afternoon after a 2-hour flight from cape town, so needless to say, i was eager to unwind before making any drastic moves to venture out and explore pretoria. after my little nap, i took a super long, relaxing bath in a tub big enough for three.
i had a light meal in the hotel’s restaurant, which turned more or less to be my own personal buffet of food choices. i just couldn’t say no to trying the chicken involtini. ladies, ladies, ladies – feta, peppadews and spinach, lightly folded into a crusted chicken breast, smothered with a mild garlic mushroom sauce, accompanied by crunchy julienne vegetables and a potato mash purée. heaven. absolute heaven.
staying at the 131 on Herbert Baker hotel, i was surprised to realize just how close i was to all of the attractions and especially my favorite of all; Old Town Italy at Menlyn Maine.
during my stay, i enjoyed a fresh continental breakfast daily, accompanied by a cup of freshly brewed coffee and chats by with Kofi. need to teach your man how to be a gentleman? Kofi is your guy!! during my last evening, when Fashion Week was done and dusted, i decided to treat myself to chef Victoria’s famous Chocolate Fondant. Yup, angel food ;)
if you’re wondering if I’m lying, NOPE it is that good.
sad to leave this beautiful place with it’s beautiful people, but SO ready for joburg. until we meet again 131 Herbert Baker
lastly, might i just add, a huge thanks to Bruce, Magdeline, Justice, Kofi and chef Victoria who made my stay so devine and enjoyable.
